Last week Hydrox Labs in conjunction with the FDA issued a
voluntary recall of mouthwash after tests discovered the presence of the bacteria, Burkholderia cepacia in a single lot.
The recall included about 60,000 bottles of mouthwash that was distributed to
over 1,000 medical facilities and hospitals nationwide. Today the FDA and
Hydrox Labs have expanded t he recall to include an additional lot, 26230.
Burkholderia cepacia poses very little risk to most people could cause illness
in patients with lowered immune systems or chronic lung disease. The CDC has
reported hospital illness associated with the recall.
The mouthwash is made by Hydrox Inc. and branded with the
Cardinal name.
