On May 10, 2007, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a recall of roughly 450,000 Evenflo Embrace Infant Car Seats/Carriers. When used as a carrier, the handle can accidentally release causing the seat to rotate forward. When this happens, the infant may fall to the ground and sustain serious injuries. Currently, there are 679 reports of the handle accidentally releasing with 160 injuries to children.

The Evenflo Embrace Infant Car Seat/Carrier recall affects all carriers made before April 8, 2006, and involves model numbers beginning with 317, 320, 397, 398, 540, 548, 549, 550, 556, 597, 598, and 599. Each carrier should have a white label on the bottom and on top of the convenience base that contains both the model number as well as the manufacture date. Until a handle repair kit has been installed, one should not use the handle though the product can continue to be used a car seat. If you believe you have an affected car seat, contact Evenflo for a latch repair kit at (800) 490-7497 8:00-5:00 ET Monday – Friday.
