Charles earned his law degree from the University of Dayton and was admitted to the bar in 1991. He is a member of the Cleveland Academy of Trial Lawyers, the National College of Advocacy and the National Board of Trial Advocates. He has been a Board Certified Civil Trial Advocate of the National Board of Trial Advocacy since 2000. He is past president of the Erie County Public Defenders Board and the Volunteer Center Board. He is also a past member of the Sandusky Central Catholic School Board and Sandusky State Theater Board.
