Landmark Institute Of Medicine Report Confirms Health Benefits Of Eating Fish

The National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Medicine (IOM) report issued today confirms the advice that leading health experts in the federal government, the American Heart Association, American Dietetic Association and others have provided for years: Americans should eat a variety of fish at least twice a week. To promote a healthy lifestyle, it is essential consumers recognize the many benefits of eating fish, which is low in calories and saturated fat, rich in nutrients and essential to a balanced diet.

This new report, requested and funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration with support from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, should ease consumer concerns about mercury in fish and encourage Americans to eat fish at least twice a week, as an important part of a healthy balanced diet.
