Here are two recalls of the same type product, manufactured by the same company, Changzhou Globe Tools Co. Ltd. of China, imported and sold by two different U.S. companies, Homelite at Home Depot and OWT Industries’ Expert Gardener at Walmart, for a total of 372,500 electric blower vacuums being recalled. Homeowners and do-it-yourselfers, take note!

CPSC’s recall #13-122, Homelite and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a voluntary recall of 241,000 electric blower vacuums due to the possibility of a laceration hazard during use because objects drawn into the vacuum can break through the plastic housing and pose a laceration hazard to the user. One incident report has been received by Homelite, and no injuries have been reported. The CPSC recommended consumers stop using this product immediately.

Two different model numbers of Homelite electric blower vacuums are affected by this recall: model UT42120 (with serial numbers BMP3540001 through BMR2103100) and model UT42120A (with serial numbers BMR2120001 through BMR3421250). The electric blower vacuums were manufactured by Changzhou Globe Tools Co. Ltd., of China and imported to the U.S. by Homelite Consumer Products Inc. of Anderson, South Carolina, and sold by Home Depot stores throughout the country and online by homedepot.com from February 2012 through December 2012 for approximately $40.

Consumers may contact Homelite at 1(800) 597-9624 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, or visit www.homelite.com and click on Safety Notices for more information or to arrange to receive a free replacement blower vacuum.
