Being the father of a girl who will be going to her first prom this year and a trial lawyer, I have to admit that I’m paranoid. I’m paranoid about her behaviour because she is a great child. What I’m concerned about is the other chiildren attending these events and the statistics about car wrecks that come with the prom.
Studies show that alcohol related crashes kill more people from the ages of 16 to 20 than any other age group. According to the National Highway Safety Act, nearly half of all fatal car accidents involve alcohol. The statistics are alarming. Each year in the United States there are approximately 47,000 motor vehicle accidents. Of these, 17,000 are alcohol related. Nationally, 1 out of 5 drivers will be involved in an alcohol-related accident each year.
With the prom and senior ball right around the corner, work hard to alert your children and local school districts of this alarming fact.
