The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Bell Sports Inc., have announced a voluntary recall of 2,500 Bell Full Throttle Bike helmets due to a problem with the helmets’ safety strap. When the safety strap releases unexpectedly (due to force of an accident), the helmet can fall from the rider’s head and the rider could sustain a head-injury.
The Bell Full Throttle Bike helmets were manufactured in China, imported to the U.S. by Bell Sports, Inc. of Scotts Valley, California, and sold exclusively at Toys ‘R’ Us stores throughout the country and online for approximately $60. The particular helmet is the black, full coverage bicycle motocross (BMX) helmet with a chin bar. The helmets are marked with UPC code 035011 and the part number 1009159 on a label on the side of the helmet’s shell. The Bell logo is also on the front, lower side of the helmet.
Consumers should immediately stop using this helmet and contact Bell Sports to arrange for a complete refund of the purchase price.
