The National Traffic Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced October 30 that BMW will recall approximately 32,000+ BMW-5 Series Gran Turismo, 7-Series, X5 and X6 vehicles in model years 2008 through 2011 equipped with turbocharged V8 or V12 engines.

This recall is due to a defect that may cause an electrical fire. Two BMW owners experienced and reported an electrical fire which is believed to have been caused by the circuit board for the water pump having overheated. No injuries were reported.

BMW plans to notify owners of the 32,084 vehicles and will repair the vehicles free of charge, according to the NHTSA. The recall will begin in November. Owners may contact NHTSA for more information by calling 1-888-327-4236 or visit the website
