The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced recall campaign 12C004, by Britax, maker of jogging strollers and other baby products. This time, Britax is recalling 55,455 convertible child restraint systems, including models Boulevard 70 G3, Advocate 70 G3 and Pavilion 70 G3, manufactured from June 2012 through August 2012, which were equipped with soft chest pad materials that may be bitten into by children yielding pieces that could choke a child if they attempt to swallow what they have bitten.
An incident involving a child gagging on a piece of the "foam" from the chest pad has been reported to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The company told federal safety regulators, the child restraint systems "were manufactured with an enhanced harness system that incorporated a softer, more pliable, non-toxic material intended to provide increased performance and comfort," according to Edmunds InsideLine.
The models affected by this recall are: models Boulevard 70 G3, Advocate 70 G3, and Pavilion 70 G3, Model Numbers: E9LJ91A, E9LJ91M, E9LJ91S, E9LJ92E, E9LJ93P, E9LJ93S, E9LK91A, E9LK31A, E9LK31Q, E9LK32D, E9LK32Z, E9LK33Q, E9LL11A, E9LL11Q, E9LL12D, E9LL12Z, E9LG81A, E9LG83N, E9LG83P, E9LG83X, E9LG83Y, E9LL21A, E9LL23P, E9LL23Y, manufactured from June 2012 through August 2012. The Britax Child Restraint Systems sold for from $200 to $320 by retailers and online.
Britax indicated the company will provide consumers with HUGS pads made from stiffer material children cannot successfully bite apart with their teeth. Britax will supply the pads and instructions on how to replace them, free of charge. Britax has also posted a video on how to remove the pads and replace them on www.BritaxUSA.com/support/safety-notices Owners may remove the pads and continue using the seats until they receive new replacement pads and replace the old ones.
