The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a voluntary recall of 15,500 X-Rider Car plastic toy scooters, due to a fall hazard. Children who lean forward too far on the seat can plummet over the single handlebar, fall to the ground and be injured. Four incident reports have been received by the company, including falls resulting in head bumps, a concussion and cuts to the gum and lip (from the child’s teeth).
The red plastic toy scooter, manufactured in the U.S. by the Step2 Co. LLC of Streetsboro, Ohio, was sold at Target and other retailers throughout the U.S. from January through August 2012 for approximately $25. The toy is 14 inches high, 14 inches wide and 19 inches long. The Step 2 red and white logo appears in the center of the bright yellow handlebar.
Consumers should remove this toy from their children’s access and contact Step2 Co. to receive a free replacement toy.
