According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford Motor Company plans to recall 3,037 model year 2012 Taurus, Lincoln MKS and certain model year 2013 Explorer vehicles manufactured from July 19, 2011, through March 15, 2012. http://www.safercar.gov

So far, this recall affects less than 3,500 vehicles. The reason for this particular recall is the seam in the vehicles’ fuel tanks may not be properly sealed and may not withstand the impact of a crash. In addition, the vehicles’ fuel tanks may also leak; and when the leaked fuel becomes ignited, the vehicle may catch fire resulting in property damage and injury.

Ford reportedly has not been notified of any fires, accidents or injuries resulting from this fuel tank problem, but is notifying owners. The recall is expected to proceed on or about April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company’s customer relations center at 1(866)436-7332, and reference the recall campaign number 13S03 for more information.

This is a safety-related defect. If your vehicle is subject to this recall, please take it to your local Ford Dealer for repairs as soon as possible.
