The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of approximately 4,530 Iroda O-Grill gas grills because their regulator can leak propane gas and catch fire. Thus far, Uni-O has received 10 reports of grills catching fire. Fortunately, no reports of injuries or property damage have been received to-date.
The portable gas grills were manufactured by Uni-O (Xiamen) Industries Corporation of Xiamen, China, imported to the U.S. and sold by LL Bean, Stoneman, BBQG, Walgreens, REI, Dillards and Dick’s Sporting Goods nationwide from November 2008 through December 2010. The O-Grill 1000 sold for $149 and the O-Grill 3000 sold for $189.
The O-grills are models 1000 and 3000 and were manufactured prior to 2010. Some of the gas grills were sold under the brand known as Tailgating Gear. Both models 1000 and 3000 are portable propane grills with steel bodies, cast iron cooking surfaces, a handle and retractable legs. These grills were outfitted for use with 1-pound propane cylinders or 20-pound propane tanks. The grills, which came in various colors, including red, orange, silver, green, blue, and black, have the words ‘O-Grill’ stamped on their metal cover.
According to the CPSC, the recalled O-Grills do not have ventilation slots in the regulator cover where the propane bottle attaches. Grills with ventilation slots in the regulator cover are not subject to the recall, the CPSC reported.
Consumers should stop using the grill and contact the company for a free replacement grill. But, these aren’t the only grills that took a hit over the holidays, Sagittarius Sporting Goods and the CPSC also recalled 10,000 Master Forge Five-Burner stainless steel gas grills made by Sagittarius Sporting Goods of China, imported by L G Sourcing Inc., of North Wilkesboro, N.C., and sold exclusively at Lowe’s from September 2009 through November 2009 for about $500.
According to the CPSC, the problem with this grill is the flexible rubber hose on the LP gas tank can come into contact with burner box, causing the hose to melt and rupture when the grill is lit, also posing a fire and burn hazard to users. The company has received two reports of the hose melting and rupturing, but no reports of injury.
The name, "Master Forge" appears on the grill hood. The model number L3218 is printed on a label inside the left front door of the grill. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled grill and contact the company to obtain a free repair kit.
