As we approach National Child Passenger Safety Week (September 18-24, 2011), Honda Motor Co. will recall 310,773 Pilot Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) due to seatbelt defects.
The seatbelts of the affected Pilot SUVs may come loose from their anchor webbing, increasing the possibility of injury to passengers if a crash occurs. The problem with the SUVs’ seatbelts is due to the manner in which the seatbelts were sewn together, although some seatbelts are missing appropriate stitching completely. Affected vehicles are those built between March 13, 2008 and August 30, 2011.
Honda Motor Corp. has indicated that the auto manufacturer has received two complaints about the seatbelts becoming detached in the past year. Honda dealers are slated to inspect the driver and front-passenger seatbelts and will replace them free of charge if necessary. The recall will begin on or about October 3, 2011. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reminds the public that seatbelts save more than 13,000 lives every year, and, therefore, it is extremely important that all automobile seatbelts and restraint systems meet their particular safety and use specifications.
