Hyundai Elantra’s airbag is undergoing an “engineering analysis” according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The NHTSA announced an investigation of 123,000 Hyundai Elantras for airbag problems in May 2012. The NHTSA will now add two model years, 2011 and 2013, to its investigation of the 2012 Elantra model’s airbag, and upgrade its investigation to an engineering analysis, bringing the Elantra 2011-2013 closer to a recall.
Approximately 75,000 of the Korean-made vehicles were sold in the U.S. Only the Korean-made vehicles contained the faulty part, according to USA Today (9/18/12).
