The good news is, in many areas, it’s the end of the mowing season for this year. The bad news is lawn mowers with Kawasaki engines are being recalled for a possible fire hazard.
Kawasaki Motors Corp. USA of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have announced a voluntary recall of about 210,000 Kawasaki FH, FR, FS and FX series engines used in riding and wide area, walk-behind lawn mowers because the fuel filters can leak, creating a fire hazard.
The lawnmowers were made and sold with the brand names: Ariens, Bad Boy Mowers, Big Dog, Bob-Cat, Bush Hog, Country Clipper, Cub Cadet, Dixie Chopper, Dixon, DR Power Equipment, Encore, Exmark, Ferris, Gravely, Hustler, Husqvarna, Land Pride, SCAG, Simplicity, Snapper Pro, Tiger Corp. Toro, Worldlawn and Woods. Engines may also have been bought separately, according to the CPSC, and used in other mowers. Recalled engines are from 13 to 36 horsepower, air-cooled, v-twin engines.
The brand name “Kawasaki” and the model number are printed on the top of the recalled engines. The specification and serial numbers are also printed on a label on one side of the engine, and the entire list of model numbers, specification and serial numbers, by brand name, can be reviewed by going to the CPSC website, http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml13/13040.html

The lawn mowers, engines and filters have been sold by authorized Kawasaki small engine dealers and lawn and garden equipment retailers throughout the country. Recalled lawn mower units sold between October 2011 and August 2012 ranged in price of between $2000 and $10,000.
Consumers are advised to stop using the mowers and contact Kawasaki or your Kawasaki dealer for a free repair.
