Kudos to Illinois company, RC2, which sells Thomas & Friends toy trains. It was discovered recently that the trains contained lead-based paint, a known neurotoxin which has been banned in this country since 1978. The risks to toddlers and small children prone to chewing on toys is obvious. These toys were unreasonably dangerous, defective products anyway you slice it. Rather than trying to cover up the problem, RC2 has admitted that the trains contain the toxic paint and that a breakdown in its supply chain is the cause. RC2 fired its paint vendor and wood vendor and is working aggressively to ensure the future safety of its toys. RC2 does own manufacturing plants in this country, but rather contracts with Chinese vendors to make its toy trains.
