56,400 Ryobi Lithium 18 Volt (4Ah) battery packs sold to consumers in the United States (54,200) and Canada (2,200) are being recalled by One World Technologies, Inc., and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) due to fire and burn hazards.

While attached to its charger, the Ryobi Lithium 18V (4Ah) battery pack can overheat and “burst”, according to the CPSC recall notice. One World Technologies, the importer, has received four reports of battery packs overheating and causing property damage. To date, no reports of injuries have been received.

The Ryobi Cordless Tool battery packs were manufactured in China by Techtronic Industries Co. Ltd. and imported by One World Technologies of Anderson, South Carolina. They were sold from September 2012 to December 2012 at Home Depot stores throughout the U.S. and in Canada, for approximately $99. The battery packs are green, silver and black, with “Ryobi” and “Lithium+ 18V” printed in white on the sides of the battery packs.

Consumers who have these battery packs are advised to disconnect the battery from its charger immediately, refrain from using the battery pack and contact the company, One World Technologies, to learn how to return the battery pack for a free repair. The company may be contacted by calling 1(800)597-9624, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Eastern Time. Consumers may also visit the website www.ryobitools.com and click on “Important Safety Information.”
