Saturday morning, a Ramsey woman was killed as she walked on 35W after being involved in an earlier collision. The woman had spun off the road along with a second car. A third car then rolled over in the same area. The woman exited her car and was heading back to the rollover when a forth car hit her. The tragedy happened off of the northbound lanes of 35W at the Forest Lake split. The circumstances are still being investigated.

The Minneapolis Tribune story about the the incident described the mother of three as:

"She was always out to help everybody," said Pamela Payne, the woman’s older sister. "It didn’t surprise us that she would get out of her vehicle and help someone in need."

It does sound like weather played a roll and that speed was also involved. It is important when you see cars off the road you slow down, because it may be a sign of a problem with the road. There are also most likely pedestrians on the road.

As with any death , there are a number of issues that will need to be reviewed. My partner, Joe Crumley, addressed this topic in a recent article for the Minnesota Lawyers Trial magazine. I was interviewed last year on the same topic. For the family of the woman sympathy goes out. Their loved one should have been safe from being hit out on the road.
