Massive Lawsuit Against Florida’s Medical Examiners
According to the lawsuit, medical examiners are charging for a service that is already a part of their job.
By law, medical examiners have to authorize a cremation before it can happen.
First Coast News has copies of bills from medical examiners from across the state. Bills that were just sent even though three years ago Florida’s Attorney General ruled ME’s can’t charge for the authorization service.
Some of the bills…received over the last months, ten cremation requests $100 in St. Augustine. Jacksonville’s bill was $200 for eight authorizations at $25 per request.
