A two vehicle accident, Monday, claimed two lives and left four others injured.

There have been 78 Alabama traffic fatalities reported in 2008 so far this year. At this time in 2007, there were 95 reported accidents.

Lawrence County Coroner’s Office pronounced two men – 39, of Hartselle and 39, of Decatur – dead at the scene, according to Decatur State Troopers.

The driver, a man, 60, of Crane Hill and three others suffered injuries in the accident. They ere transported from the accident scene by Medflight.

The driver was listed in good condition at Huntsville Hospital. The other three passengers were listed in good condition and recovering.

The accident happened at the intersection of Alabama 157 and Alabama 36, just after 6 p.m. on Monday, when the vehicles collided. The accident remains under investigation by the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
