On April 13, a 13-year-old Kaely Camacho lost her life in an auto accident. According to a police report, the drunk driver was traveling in a busway at 100 mph. He was also driving without a license. The accident was so severe that it ripped the minivan in half. Kaely’s dad and 16-year-old sister, Bree Ann suffered minor injuries. The drunk driver fled the scene on foot, but was quickly apprehended.

The man has been charged with vehicular homicide, DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury, and driving without a driver’s license resulting in a death. He is being held on a $1 million bond, but is asking for the bond to be reduced.

This fatal accident is yet another example that drinking and driving is a dangerous and costly combination. Bree Ann Camacho posted a video on her Facebook page recalling the events following of that fatal accident and begging for the public to sign a petition to keep the man behind bars. “Look what he did, my little sister is gone because of him," she said. “Even if you don’t know me or my family or my sister, like, we can save lives. This isn't supposed to happen. We need to stop drunk driving."

Bree Ann believes she survived the accident to be an advocate against drunk driving. Don’t wait until something happens to you or your family. If we all take the problem of drunk driving seriously, we can make a difference.
