Tennessee requires all children under one year of age or under 20 pounds to be place in a rear facing position in an approved child passenger restraint system . Children between one and three years of age can be placed in a forward facing position in a approved child safety postion . Children between four years and eight years must be placed in a booster belt system . A violation of these laws could result in a citation and punishment up to thirty days in jail and a $50.00 dollar fine . During the Holiday season , it is more important than ever that we follow these basic rules to protect our children from harm . I know what a problem that can be when my children were little and trying to get out of their car seats . Our children are what gives us joy most of the time . I hope this reminder helps .
