It is undisputed that drunk drivers are the number one cause of traffic fatalities in this country. In Nashville , there appears to be a greater problem in the Hispanic community as it relates to drunk driving . Leaders in the Latino community have expressed their concern with this social issue . Members of the Latino community , State Farm Insurance , Metro Police , and Hispanic media have joined forces to try to stop this problem. Police report that alcohol was a factor in 75 percent of the fatal car crashes caused this year by Hispanics . Hispanics make up 6.3 percent of the population in Nashville , but account for 17 percent of the fatal traffic accidents in Nashville . Hopefully , this outreach to the Hispanic community will create an awareness of this critical problem.
