A Port Orchard woman died late Wednesday from injuries she suffered in a serious motorcycle accident near Gorst earlier in the day. Cindy M. Morrissey, 47, crashed when she tried to avoid a morning traffic backup on westbound Highway 16 at about 7:00 a.m. She was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The motorcycle was destroyed. Troopers said they believe excessive speed caused the crash.
This unfortunate accident reinforces the point made in a number of newspaper articles this year: motorcycle riders are getting older and the number of serious injuries and deaths of riders in their 40s, 50s and 60s is increasing.
