Just over a year ago an Airlift Northwest helicopter plunged into Puget Sound near Edmonds. The crash killed the pilot and two flight nurses. A month after the first crash and Airlift Northwest helicopter crashed while taking off from the roof of Olympia’s Providence St. Peter Hospital. Since then, company officials say they have begun implementing a plan aimed at improving the safety of the emergency airlift service.
Special rules apply to emergency personnel like the crews of the Airlift Northwest helicopters and ambulance drivers. But they can still be held liable when they hurt the people they are supposed to be helping.
