In October, an overloaded truck was reportedly driving at an unsafe speed. As it approached a curve on Highway 101, logs fell off the back of an overloaded truck and in the path of a following car. The two men in the car were killed. Authorities reported the truck was 7,700 pounds over the legal weight limit and that the bolts securing the load had failed. The Washington State Patrol has now recommended the driver be charged with two counts of vehicular homicide. The company who owns the truck has been cited for overweight trucks and failing to take trucks with defective parts out of service.
The families of the victims should contact a personal injury attorney to ensure their claims are preserved. For more information, please see: State patrol recommends charges in double fatal logging truck crash.
