The CPSC (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) put out a new report today that states children under the age of 5 represent more than 75% of all swimming pool deaths and spa deaths and 78% of all such deaths in the United States involving children 15 years or younger. What's more, the article reveals that drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death of children ages 1-4. Most of these drownings occur in backyard pools.

The article reminds us to teach our children how to swim at a young age, to install fences around private backyard pools to prevent our own children and others from entering the pool without our knowledge, and to always watch our children in the pools even if the kids are avid swimmers. Kids get tired and misjudge their strength which can lead to drownings.
