Thanksgiving is usually a time for giving thanks and celebrating with family and friends the past year. Unfortunately, for a family in New York, Thanksgiving this year was a time of mourning and sadness. Early Thursday morning a man was driving his Sierra pickup on the highway and failed to follow turns to take a right off the highway, the man ended up going off the road and was thrown out of his vehicle through the passenger side window and into a guardrail on the side of the road. The man was not wearing his safety belt at the time of the accident and the fact that he was going 10-20 miles and hour over the speed limit may be the reason why this man lost his life. Empty bottles of alcohol were also found at the scene, which make police and fire officials believe that alcohol may have been involved in the accident. In a statement released after the accident it was said that the man might have had little to no damage on his body if he had been wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. The improper uses of seatbelts are one of the leading contributors to deaths in the United States, and will continue to be as the population continues to grow. This mans death could have been prevented if he had followed correct turn signals and was wearing his seatbelt.
