Certain cases of Dole bagged salads have been recalled in several states due to a possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

This recall involves bags of Dole Hearts of Romaine coded 0540N165112A or B, with Use-by date of June 26 and UPC 7143000956. To this date, there have been illnesses reported in conjunction with this recall.

Consumers are urged to discard the recalled product and to not consume it. Questions should be directed to the Dole Food company Consumer Response Center at (800) 356-3111.

Listeria can cause foodborne illness in any person who eats a contaminated item. Symptoms can include fever, aches, nausea and diarrhea. Healthy adults and children are rarely affected. However pregnant women and adults with weakened immune systems can be at risk.

The company is working closely with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The FDA news release also includes a photo of the recalled item and label for easy reference.
