It’s the perfect time of year to spend time outdoors and as such many people have citronella candles and/or torches burning to ward off the bugs. But, if your torch was purchased at Big Lots it’s important to ensure it is not included in a big recall that was just announced by the company.

The recall was issued because the citronella table torches – once lit – can flare up and emit burning lamp oil onto the consumers’ property, which poses a fire and burn hazard. To date the company has received 20 reports of liquid fuel erupting from the torches with high flames. Two reported incidents included two serious injuries and seven minor injuries; each case reported property damage.

The recall involves 30,000 items of both large and small tabletop torches that have a wick and burn liquid citronella fuel. The affected items have item #DC12-21111 (large torch) or Item #DC10-20160 (small torch).

Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled torches immediately and to return them to any Big Lots store for a full refund. For additional information, the company can be contacted by calling their customer service number at (866) 244-5687 or by visiting them online at www.biglots.com and click on “Recalls”.
