Applica Consumer Products issued a voluntary recall of Black & Decker Spacemaker coffeemakers because the pot-handle can break off, causing cuts and burns to the consumer. This recall is an extension of an earlier recall in June 2012.
To date, the company has received over 1,600 complaints of the pot handles breaking which includes more than 80 reports of cuts and/or burns.
The recall involves 12-cup coffee makers that are designed to mount under a cabinet. They are available in black or white with the words “BLACK & DECKER SPACEMAKER on the bottom of the unit. Model number SDC740 was from the first recall.
Consumers should discontinue use of the recalled coffeemakers and call Applica to arrange a refund for the item price. The company can be reached online at www.aprecall.com or by calling (866) 708-7846.
The items were sold at True Value Hardware Stores nationwide from July 2008 to June 2013.
