With the growing number of people being layed off, we are starting to get more questions about Health Insurance. In particular, as to who qualifies for Cobra and what does it involve. I came upon this very helpful blog answering some of the questions in the Chicago Tribune by Judith Graham. Who Qualifies for Cobra?
Some of the important points:
- You have to pay the full cost of the policy plus a 2 percent administration fee.
- The worker must have had employer-based health care coverage to qualify for COBRA.
- Employees can continue employer-sponsored health care coverage for 18 months when they leave their jobs.
It's important in these economic times to make sure that you follow all of the requirements if you are going to continue on with your health coverage. If you have questions make sure to contact an experienced Attorney with any questions.
