Here is the new 2010 ATV Consumer Product Safety Report of Deaths and Injuries for the year 2009.

Although the numbers look promising with respect to the small decline of fatalities to children under age 16, it is important to note that these numbers are only ESTIMATES and once all the data is collected they will eventually climb again. The report for 2008 stated there were an estimated 74 deaths of children younger than 16. Today that number has risen to 94 deaths making the percentage of deaths for children a lot higher than previously reported. While efforts to keep children under 16 years of age off ATV’s seems to be helping, ATV’s remain the cause of hundreds of deaths as well over a hundred thousand injuries each year. In 2009, 16 percent of the ATV fatalities so far were children under age 16, with 48 percent of those children being younger than 12 years old! We need to continue with our education and awareness about the dangers ATV’s pose to children. Please join Concerned Families for ATV Safety in following the recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics by keeping children under the age of 16 off all ATV’s. Losing a child isn’t worth the risk!
