460,000 air compressors are being recalled because the motor can overheat and cause a fire.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced that the manufacturer of the air compressors, DeVilbiss Air Power, of Jackson TN, is voluntarily recalling these units because the company received nine reports of motors overheating. Three of these cases resulted in of fire damage to surrounding property.

Affected by the recall, are air compressors sold under the Craftsman, DeVilbiss, Husky, Delta Shopmaster and Porter-Cable brand names. Consumers may have bought the DeVilbiss, Porter-Cable, Husky and Delta Shopmaster brand air compressors at home centers nationwide for $199 to $299 from January 2003 through December 2004. Sears stores nationwide sold the Craftsman brand air compressors between September 2000 and December 2005 for between $199 and $229.

Consumers can determine if their air compressor is on the list by finding the nameplate on the air compressor’s tank and comparing it to this chart:
