Don’t Be Fooled By The Recent Texting Stories

I’ve been reading all of the articles recently about the doubts that laws are creating on the reduction of texting and driving. I really don’t buy it. I also hope that people don’t give up or give in as a result.

The belief is that people are hiding their phones while texting and thus making the roads even more dangerous. There also have been questions raised as to enforcement. The question has come up based on a report from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which has accumulated data from California, Louisiana, Minnesota, and Washington which shows that accident rates have increased since the passing of new laws.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood was skeptical of the conclusion that laws against distractions like texting increase highway dangers."Tough laws are the first step and enforcement must be next. We know that anti-distracted-driving laws can be enforced effectively,"LaHood said.
