On June 16, Anapol Schwartz Shareholder Lawrence Cohan was named President of Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association (PTLA).

For more than 30 years, Cohan has obtained justice for victims injured by asbestos, medical malpractice, dangerous medical devices, vaccine injuries, and other negligent matters.

Serving in leading roles in many complex cases, Mr. Cohan has forged new law in both the trial and appellate court levels in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C. Cohan also served as Lead Counsel in the first and only lead poisoning case filed in Pennsylvania against the lead pigment industry. He also obtained the first plaintiff’s verdict in an asbestos case in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, with the first verdict of its kind against asbestos “friction” product defendants, GE, GTE and Eaton Cutler-Hammer Corporation.

As PTLA president, Cohan will lead more than 1,000 trial lawyers in the Philadelphia area in preserving the law and creating legislation to protect the rights of innocent victims. The PTLA works with other progressive groups to make a positive difference in the lives of every citizen of Pennsylvania.

“Because of the Trial Lawyers, the workplace in Pennsylvania is safer,” Cohan said. “Products are safer because manufacturers know we hold them responsible, and perhaps we have also helped make it safer to be a patient in a hospital in Pennsylvania.”
