Menu Foods, based in Canada, has issued a huge recall of dog and cat food. The recalled pet food may cause kidney failure. It includes over 90 brands of pet food and is the canned and foil packet “cuts and gravy” style food. The FDA reports that 16 pets have died so far.

Worried owners around Norfolk are calling their veterinarians and pet stores to find out more information and whether their food is included in the recall.

Vets said to watch your pets for any warning signs of kidney failure. These include increased drinking and urination, vomiting, loss of appetite and anything out of the ordinary.

If you notice any of these signs take your pet to a vet as soon as possible.

“There are reversible kidney diseases. So if you catch it early enough you can prevent end stage kidney failure,”

Veterinarians would like to remind pet owners not to panic and to check closely to see if their pet food is involved in the recall. If it is, then they would like you to watch your pet for any of the above signs.
