Overstock Inc., issued a voluntary recall of Buckyballs magnet sets, due to a choking hazard to young children. If two or more magnets are swallowed, they can link together within the child’s intestines and cause serious internal injuries that can lead to lifelong health effects including death.
To this date, Overstock has not received any incident reports. However, the agency has received 54 reports of accidents involving children ingesting the magnets which have resulted in 53 reports of medical intervention.
The recall involves Buckyballs high-powered magnet sets that contain 216 silver-colored spherical magnets. The CPSC News Release includes a photo of the recalled item for reference.
Consumers are urged to discontinue using the recalled magnets and to take them away from small children. Overstock should be contacted online for refund information.
