A bill passed the Pennsylvania Senate that would eliminate the requirement for medical malpractice and self-insurers to file annual reports with the Pennsylvania Insurance Department. The bill goes to the House next for consideration.
The report lists every medical malpractice claim and resolution. According to industry experts, these reports are not read nor used for any purpose. The current law is a classic case of government bureaucracy, according to Sen. Mike Folmer, and "doing something because it's always been done that way, or is required by some law or regulation but no one knows why it's done."
