The Sterno Group LLC, working in cooperation with the CPSC, issued a voluntary recall of portable butane stoves, because the “on-off” valve can fail to close completely when “off” which can cause butane to leak, posing a fire and burn hazard.
The company has received one report of the stove failing to shut off, to date. No one has been injured.
The recall involves portable butane stoves with model numbers STO6001 and 50006 and UPC 0-27371-50006-9 or UPC 0-76642-06001-6. Model and UPC numbers can be found printed on the stove packaging. The CPSC news release has photos of the recalled units for reference.
Consumers should contact Sterno for instructions to return the unit for a free replacement. The recalled stoves should not be returned to the store of purchase.
