Risk of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Prompts Recall of Tankless Water Heaters

Navien America, working in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), issued a voluntary recall of two types of water heaters because an unstable connection can cause the vent collar to separate or detach posing a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

To date, there have been no incidents reported in association with this recall.

The Navien tankless water heaters are white with “T-Creator” and “NAVIEN” on the front. Below are the model numbers involved in the recall:

Labeling on the side of the unit lists the model number and manufacturing year. They were sold nationwide at wholesale distributors to in-home installers from February 2008 to March 2009.

Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled units and to check the model and manufacture year. Consumers that have a water heart affected by the recall should contact Navien to arrange a free repair. If consumers intend to use the water heaters prior to repair, a working carbon monoxide alarm should be installed near all sleeping areas in the home.
