Select GE Monogram Pro Rangetop with Grill appliances have been recalled in the United States and Canada in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and General Electric Company (GE).
Hazard: When one of the top burner gas control knobs is unknowingly left in a position between OFF and LITE, the burner can fail to light. Due to LP gas being heavier than air, this can lead to an accumulation of gas in the base of the rangetops with Grills operating on LP gas. This situation creates the potential for a delayed ignition or explosion.
To date, there have been six reports made to GE which have involved explosions in units operating LP gas. There have been no reports of fires or injuries.
A list of models and serial numbers involved in the recall – as well as photos – can be viewed on the CPSC Web site.
If your Rangetop with Grill is included in the recall, immediately stop using the product, turn off the gas supply, and contact GE to schedule your free repair.
GE intends to notify known owners of the recalled products – including a free repair for any consumers who converted their Rangetop with Grill to LP gas. For more information, contact General Electric at (866) 645-3956 or visit them online at www.geappliances.com/products/recall.
