Just last week, public health officials warned of a Measles infected individual that had attended pre-Super Bowl festivities. There were already four cases of reported Measles in the Indiana area and doctors were urging any Super Bowl attendees to make sure they were up to date with their vaccinations. However, the number as risen to six additional cases, bringing the total number to ten.
While individuals born before 1957 don't need to worry about Measles because they were most likely vaccinated, some people from Europe and about 10% of the U.S. population that is unvaccinated do need to be concerned about Measles. The first case of Measles allegedly started at the Super Bowl Village two days before the game. All of the reported cases of Measles are within Indiana, specifically in Boone and Hamilton Counties.
None of the infected individuals have been hospitalized for their illness. However, doctors continue to urge individuals to get vaccinated and expect the number of cases to continue to rise over the next couple of days. Health officials in Indiana are also working with health departments in Massachussetts and New York to identify any other cases.
