Abuse of the elderly takes many forms. Horror stories of beatings, starvation, neglect, verbal and physical abuse and financial fraud against seniors seem to be more common these days. As the general population grows older, the problem is likely to get worse. In the state of Oregon, an official report issued earlier in October found that the number of investigations and cases of elder abuse in 2014 was up 10 percent over the previous year’s figures.
One case involved a nursing home in the Southern California community of Vista. The San Diego County Sheriff’s office launched an investigation after an employee at the LifeHOUSE Vista Healthcare Center was accused of taking video footage of a resident as she was getting into the shower.
