A voluntary recall of Triaminic and Theraflu Products was initiated by Novartis because the child-resistant caps can fail to properly function, therefore enabling the cap to be removed even with the tamper-evident seal in place posing a poisoning risk.
The products contain acetaminophen and diphenhydramine which are required to be sealed with child-resistant packaging, according to the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA). The products affected by the recall were manufactured in the United States before December 31, 2011.
Consumers can contact Novartis Consumer Healthcare by calling (866) 553-6742. Alternatively, they can be reached online by visiting www.novartisOTC.com for additional recall information.
