Merit Bird Company, LLC is recalling several items because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, which can cause serious and often fatal infections in young children, frail and elderly and others with compromised immune systems. To date, no illnesses have been reported.
The following items and lot codes are included in this recall:
Vitae Cockatiel with Sunflower 2lbs, (#2840081)
Vitae Cockatiel with Sunflower 4lbs, (#2840090)
Vitae Small Hookbill 4lbs, (#2840225)
Vitae Small Hookbill 20lbs, (#2840234)
Vitae Hookbill with Sunflower 4lbs, (#2840252)
Vitae Large Hookbill 4lbs, (#2840279)
If your animals may have consumed the recalled products and are suffering any symptoms, contact your veterinarian immediately. Animals with Salmonella may be lethargic or have bloody diarrhea and vomiting. Animals can be carriers and infect other animals and also humans.
