The FDA is going to undertake a massive effort to regulate the manner in which children’s cold medicines are marketed. This should result in tougher rules for pharmaceutical companies and safer cough and cold medicines for children. The effort will concentrate on children’s over the counter medicines which has largely been left untouched and unregulated since the 1960’s. The heightened regulations comes in the midst of heightened concerns over the safety and efficacy of children’s drugs which at times have contained the same potency and active ingredients as adult cold products.
