CNN has reported that Chrysler Group will recall 24,000 Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles because of a defective part that could cause sudden, unexpected brake failure.
The recall applies to some 2010 model year Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger sedans; Dodge Nitro, Jeep Liberty, Jeep Commander and Grand Cherokee SUVs; and 2009 and 2010 model year Ram trucks.
Some of these vehicles could have an improperly formed brake booster rod retaining clip, and some Ram trucks may have been built without the piece. The part is necessary for consistent and proper functioning of the brakes.
Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep owners should contact NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline at (888) 327-4236 or contact Chrysler at (800) 853-1403 for more information about the recall.
Under Chrysler’s bankruptcy plan, the "new" Chrysler agreed to accept responsibility for recalls and product warranties for vehicles manufactured or sold by the "old" company. In a major victory for Chrysler owners, the "new" company also agreed to accept responsibility for product defect and negligence claims arising from vehicles manufactured or sold by the previous company.
This recall appears to stem from vehicles manufactured and sold by the new company. All of the recalled vehicles appear to have been manufactured or sold by the "new" Chrysler following the bankruptcy in June 2009.
