I’ve written before on the many reasons why politics should be kept out of the courtroom – particularly in the selection of judges. Non-partisan, merit-based judicial selection is the best way to ensure a highly qualified, impartial court.
We have another example why partisan judicial elections are not a good idea — this time out of Oklahoma. There, John Mantooth is a candidate for judge in District 21, which covers three counties in Oklahoma. His daughter has taken out a newspaper add begging voters: "Don’t vote for my dad".

In an interview with Fox News, political science professor, Keith Gaddie, decried the campaign:
It’s reality show politics. It’s unsavory. It’s undignified, and it’s real.
CBS News reported that the candidate – John Mantooth – is very sad about the negative campaign and said he loves his daughter. Mantooth suspects his daughter was motivated by politics.
I don’t know John Mantooth, but I do know this: Dorothy Mantooth is a saint!
